August 7, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Modesto Nuts News Release

Bakersfield, CA. - Despite a great performance by Konner Wade, the Modesto Nuts fell 1-0 against the Blaze in the opening game of a four-game set at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Wade (L, 7-7) tossed eight innings allowing just a solo home run to Nelson Ward in the sixth. Wade struck out four and gave up just four hits. Ward's home run was the lone extra base hit. Wade did not walk a batter.

The Nuts (59-51; 26-14) offense did nothing to back up Wade. Blaze (42-68; 16-24) starter Jake Zokan (W, 2-1) allowed only one runner to reach second base. Zokan tossed five scoreless innings, did not record a strikeout, and walked only one.

Kyle Schepel (S, 2/2) recorded the final five outs in a row to give the Blaze the first game of this four game series.

Michael Benjamin had half of the Nuts' hits. Benjamin went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles in the loss.

Same two teams square off in the second game of the four-game series on Friday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:25 p.m.
