No luck in NOLA: Fresno overwhelmed by Gallen in 5-1 defeat

June 4, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Metairie, Louisiana - The New Orleans Baby Cakes (33-26) beat the Fresno Grizzlies (28-30) 5-1 from Shrine on Airline. New Orleans starter Zac Gallen dazzled for seven innings of one-run ball. The right hander allowed four hits on two walks while tying a career-high with 11 strikeouts. He improved to 8-1 on the year and lowered his earned run average to 1.67 (best in the PCL). On the other hand, Kevin McGowan (1-1) suffered his first loss with Fresno after five and two-thirds frames of work. He punched out six without walking a batter.

A pair of solo shots by Wilkin Castillo and Isan Diaz pushed the Baby Cakes ahead early in the contest. The advantage became too much to handle after a three-run sixth. Gabriel Guerrero (double) and Micah Brown (single) highlighted the frame.

Louisiana-native and LSU product Andrew Stevenson enjoyed his first trip back to the Big Easy, notching two hits and reaching base three times. Yadiel Hernandez also tallied a pair of hits while Alec Keller mustered the only RBI. Brandon Snyder plated the Grizzlies only run in the loss. It was the first road game this season that Fresno did not record a homer.
