No Comeback for Rockford Against Barons

Rockford, Ill.- In the last two games, the Rockford IceHogs found a third period scoring touch that helped them to big wins over the San Antonio Rampage and Peoria Rivermen. The Oklahoma City Barons, however, stifled a potential comeback Saturday to take a 3-1 win over the IceHogs at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

Rockford tried to ignite a third period comeback mid-way through the final frame down 2-0. Just 11 seconds into a power play, Brian Connelly fired a slapshot past David LeNeveu to put the IceHogs within one at the 12:37 mark.

But that was all Rockford could get past the Baron's puckstopper and Oklahoma City would seal the game with an empty net tally.

With 1:21 left in the game, the IceHogs sent out the extra attacker in an attempt to tie the score and force overtime. The Barons, however, gained control of the puck and Ryan O'Marra buried an empty net goal at 18:57.

After a scoreless first period, the Barons capitalized on a power-play opportunity at 1:06 of the middle frame to make it 1-0. Alexander Salak thought he had the puck covered after a flurry in front of the IceHogs net, but Philippe Cornet poked it in from underneath the IceHogs netminder to give Oklahoma City the lead. Mark Arcobello and Taylor Chorney tallied assists on the play.

Cornet found the back of the net again in the third period, this time 2:41 into the frame. An IceHogs turnover behind their net led to a Ryan Keller pass from the right side over to Cornet, who slapped the puck in behind Salak to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.

The IceHogs went 1-for-6 on the power play while Oklahoma City converted on one of two opportunities.

Salak stopped 25 of 27 shots he faced and was tagged with the loss. LeNeveu turned away 30 shots en route to earning the win.

Next Home Game: Friday, Dec. 2 vs. Lake Erie. The puck hits the ice at 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs welcome the Lake Erie Monsters to the BMO Harris Bank Center for the first time in 2011-12. The first 1,500 fans (21 or older) will get an IceHogs pint glass thanks to Applebees.

For every goal that the Rockford IceHogs score in 2011-12, IceHogs head coach Ted Dent will make a donation to children's cancer research. BMO Harris Bank will also make a donation for every goal to the "BMO Harris Bank Goals For Grades".
