CEDAR PARK, Texas --- Joel Broda scored twice, Casey Wellman notched two assists and goaltender Matt Hackett stopped 33 of 35 shots as the Houston Aeros doubled up the Texas Stars 4-2 Saturday at Cedar Park Center.
Houston, which improved to 7-1-0-1 on the road and 11-3-2-4 overall, has recorded a standings point in six straight games. The victory pushed the Aeros into second place in the AHL's West Division, just one point behind first place Oklahoma City.
Broda opened the scoring for the Aeros in the first period and added an insurance goal in the third.
Tied 1-1 entering the second period, the Stars converted on the power play with Jordie Benn's sixth goal of the season to go up 2-1. Houston rallied back with goals at 6:49 and 17:06 of the middle stanza. Jon DiSalvatore knotted the score at 2-2 with a power play goal and Chad Rau's even strength tally sent Houston into the locker room with a 3-2 lead.
Mike Hedden also scored for the Stars, and goaltender Richard Bachman made 22 saves in the loss.
The Aeros continue a five-game road trip this Wednesday in Cleveand against the Lake Erie Monsters at 6 p.m. (CST).
