
Buffalo Sabres Recall Szczechura, McNabb from Rochester

(Rochester, NY)... Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced today that forward Paul Szczechura and defenseman Brayden McNabb have been recalled from the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League. In addition, the Amerks have recalled defenseman Corey Fienhage from the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators.
Szczechura (5'10", 186 lbs., 11/30/85), who signed a one-year NHL contract with the Sabres on Aug. 9, has played in nine games with Rochester this season, collecting seven points (1+6).
Prior to joining the Amerks, Szczechura spent last season with the Norfolk Admirals (AHL). In 79 games with the Admirals, the Brantford, Ontario, native collected 52 points (22+30). Szczechura appeared in 83 games with the Tampa Bay Lightning during parts of the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, recording 16 points (9+7).
In 223 career AHL games, Szczechura has totaled 155 points (63+92) between Rochester, Norfolk and the Iowa Stars.
McNabb (6'5", 212 lbs., 1/21/90), who is playing in his rookie AHL season, has played 19 games for the Amerks this season and has tallied 10 points (1+9) to lead all team defenseman in scoring.
The Davidson, Saskatchewan, native was selected by Buffalo in the third round (66th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. In four full seasons (2007-11) with the Kootenay Ice of the WHL, McNabb had 176 points (50+126) in 258 games, along with 419 PIMs. The Sabres signed McNabb to a three-year entry level contract on May 18.
Fienhage (6'3", 215 lbs., 5/4/90), has appeared in all 19 games for Gwinnett this season, recording eight points on three goals and five assists to tie for the team-lead in scoring among defensemen. Last season, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Fienhage registered 14 points (4+10) in 70 games with Kamloops of the WHL before making his AHL debut with the Portland Pirates, appearing in four regular season games and six playoff contests. Fienhage was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the third round (81 st overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
The Rochester Americans continue their three-game holiday homestand tonight as the Hamilton Bulldogs return to Western New York for the second time this season. The 7:35 p.m. North Division matchup will be the fourth of 10 scheduled meetings this season between the divisional rivals and can be heard live on 107.3 FM and 1280 AM, Rochester's Sports Talk.
