NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release

HARRISON, N.J. - NJ/NY Gotham FC returned home to Red Bull Arena to face off against the Orlando Pride on Sunday evening. The team welcomed home Olympic medalists Carli Lloyd, Kailen Sheridan, and Evelyne Viens in a match presented digitally to Gotham FC fans by Hackensack Meridian Health. An early second half goal from Erika Tymrak was all that was needed to give Orlando Pride the 1-0 victory.

The game got off to a quick start with a chance on goal from Carli Lloyd in the opening minute that forced Ashlyn Harris to make one of her three saves on the night. Orlando Pride's best chance came in the 37th minute when Marta took a low-driven strike that went just wide of the goal. Despite the efforts, both teams headed into the half scoreless.

The second half opened with a goal from Erika Tymrak from outside the box in the 49th minute that sailed beyond the reach of Kailen Sheridan to put the Orlando Pride up 1-0. Although Gotham FC dominated possession in the second half with 65%, the team was unable to translate that possession into critical scoring opportunities. The match closed out the Freya Coombe era as the team gets set to announce a successor in the coming week.

Gotham FC Head Coach Freya Coombe on the match:

"I think it's something that is similar to the story of a few of our games lately. We've had a ton of possession and a ton of good play, but have failed to put the ball in the back of the net and failed to be clinical in the final third, which is disappointing. It's going to take something special to beat us defensively and it certainly was with that shot cross, but credit to them for taking advantage."

Following Sunday's match, Gotham FC will remain at home to face the Chicago Red Stars. Be sure to catch professional comedians The Cooligans as they host Gotham FC's Latinx Night on Saturday, September 4. The team will then travel to Legends Field to face Kansas City on Friday, September 10. Single and group tickets are now on sale and pricing details can be found here.
