Houston Dash News Release
HoustonÃÂ DashÃÂ bested Racing Louisville by a final score of 1-0 tonight atÃÂ BBVA Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the DashÃÂ scored the lone goalÃÂ of the game in theÃÂ 49thÃÂ minute,ÃÂ whenÃÂ forwardÃÂ Nichelle PrinceÃÂ foundÃÂ fellowÃÂ forwardÃÂ Rachel DalyÃÂ streaking into the box. DalyÃÂ needed just one touch to strike the ball with her right foot past the diving Louisville keeper and into the back of the next to break open the game for the Dash.
Daly'sÃÂ goal is the third of the season for the English national and the 27thÃÂ of her NWSL career.ÃÂ
LouisvilleÃÂ got the game'sÃÂ first opportunity to scoreÃÂ offÃÂ anÃÂ EminaÃÂ EkicÃÂ free kick, which the midfielder struckÃÂ into the boxÃÂ in theÃÂ ninthÃÂ minute. After ricochetingÃÂ offÃÂ a number ofÃÂ players from both sides, Louisville'sÃÂ Nealy MartinÃÂ got aÃÂ cleanÃÂ shotÃÂ offÃÂ before HoustonÃÂ defenderÃÂ Katie NaughtonÃÂ blocked theÃÂ ballÃÂ just beforeÃÂ it crossedÃÂ the goal line.
The game's next shot on goal cameÃÂ courtesyÃÂ ofÃÂ Louisville's Nadia NadimÃÂ in the 25thÃÂ minute.ÃÂ After making her way from the midfield into Houston's attacking third,ÃÂ the forwardÃÂ shot the ball from outside theÃÂ 18 yardÃÂ box, howeverÃÂ Houston goalkeeperÃÂ Jane CampbellÃÂ hadÃÂ little troubleÃÂ swallowingÃÂ up the midfielder's shot.ÃÂ Campbell finished with three saves and her first clean sheet sinceÃÂ a 2-0 victory over OL Reign on July 2 at BBVA Stadium.ÃÂ ÃÂ
Campbell finished the game withÃÂ the 15thÃÂ clean sheet of her NWSL career, tied for seventh most in league history.ÃÂ
Houston's best scoring chance of the first half cameÃÂ in theÃÂ 29thÃÂ minute, whenÃÂ forwardÃÂ Veronica LatskoÃÂ received a passÃÂ from a teammateÃÂ andÃÂ found herself open inside the box with only the keeper toÃÂ beat.ÃÂ TheÃÂ DashÃÂ forwardÃÂ struck the ballÃÂ sharply with her leftÃÂ foot,ÃÂ butÃÂ sent itÃÂ directly into the arms ofÃÂ Louisville captainÃÂ and goalieÃÂ MichelleÃÂ Betos.
Just before the halftime whistle blew,ÃÂ Prince dribbled the ball up the right flank all the way into the penalty box.ÃÂ The gold medal winnerÃÂ attemptedÃÂ to find Daly on the other end of a cross, but the Louisville keeper pounced in front of the ball before it could reachÃÂ herÃÂ Dash teammate.
ÃÂ The second half featured a number of chances outside of just the game's lone goal, includingÃÂ a long-range effort from forwardÃÂ MichaelaÃÂ AbamÃÂ in the 88th minuteÃÂ that did not haveÃÂ quite enoughÃÂ powerÃÂ to get past the Louisville keeper.
ÃÂ Houston's next match willÃÂ comeÃÂ thisÃÂ Wednesday night at home when they take on OL Reign.ÃÂ The first 1,000 attendeesÃÂ ofÃÂ Wednesday's gameÃÂ will receive a free Rachel Daly bobblehead,ÃÂ presented by MD Anderson.ÃÂ Kickoff for that match is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT and tickets are availableÃÂ atÃÂ HoustonDash.com/tickets.
