
Ninth Inning Heroics Launch RedWolves to 6-3 Walk-off Win

FLORENCE, S.C.- On a beautiful Sunday afternoon the (4-6) Lexington County Blowfish worked their way into Sparrow Stadium to be popped in the ninth by the (7-4) Florence RedWolves 6-3.
The RedWolves entered the ninth inning down 3-to-1, but did not settle for the loss. Instead, Florence resisted and fought back gallantly. Chris Adams (Lee University) led off the inning with a single to right center, behind him; Nathan Wierzgac drew a no-out walk. Florence's three-hole hitter, Chaz Pal executed an excellent sacrifice bunt, advancing both runners 90 feet. Ben Holland (Lee University), the RedWolves cleanup hitter, came up to the plate and belted the game tying 2 RBI double over the center fielder's head; Matt Williams (University of South Carolina) was then plunked. With a tie ball game at 3-to-3, runners on first and second with one out, Josh Meyer (Grand Canyon University) blasted the first long ball Cormell Field has seen all season to left field for the come from behind, 6-3 walk-off win. Florence scored five runs in the ninth inning pushing them past the Blowfish, 6-to-3, improving them to (8-4) on the season.
Florence got on the board early in the first inning, taking the 1-0 lead off of a leadoff walk to Adams, sac-bunt from Wierzgac, and a two-out single from Holland.
The Blowfish were able to take the 2-1 lead in the top of the 6th. Jared Williams (University of South Carolina) opened with a single, followed by a walk to Francis Marion's, JD Crowe. Both runners advanced on a double steal, but the throw down to third got away from Meyer, allowing Williams to score on the play. Connor Owings (Coastal Carolina University) drove in Crowe with a sac-fly to left, putting Lexington County up, 2-1.
The Blowfish would add their last run of the night in the top of the seventh. Howard Joe (Mercer) got things going with a one-out double followed by two walks. Crowe came up to the plate with two outs and was able to reach on an RBI single hit into the deep hole at short. Blowfish took the 3-1 lead.
The RedWolves were down 3-1 going into the bottom of the ninth and rallied hard for their eighth win of the season. Josh Meyer cranked his first home run of the season in a restorative way.
Florence moves to (8-4) on the season and slides back into first place of the Western Division. They will travel to Lexington County again tomorrow night for game two of the three game series of this weeks scheduling. Then on Tuesday, June 9th, the RedWolves will be back home to take on the Blowfish for the third game, and the fourth time this season.
