August 24, 2005 - A wild 9th inning comeback fell just short for the IronBirds (21-39), who dropped game one of a seven game homestand with a 7-6 loss to New Jersey on Wednesday night. No-hit through 6.1 innings, Aberdeen's bats woke up in the last three innings, putting up 6 runs while drawing a team record 11 walks. The IronBirds have lost 14 of their last 15 to the Cardinals.

The IronBirds fell behind quickly as Dennis Robinson gave up 4 runs in the first inning. The IronBirds would not get on the board until the seventh inning, but it was already too late. In the seventh, Rob Marconi broke up the no-hitter with an RBI single scoring Ryan Steinbach setting the score at 7-2 in favor of New Jersey. The IronBirds would not allow New Jersey to get back on the board and would stage a serious comeback in the bottom of the ninth.

The IronBirds struck quick in the bottom half of the ninth inning, scoring four runs with zero outs. Unfortunately, the IronBirds ran out of gas quickly and could not finish the comeback.

Zach Davis and Rob Marconi each had two RBI while Zo Scott and NYPL All-Star Mark Fleisher each had one RBI.

The IronBirds will attempt to even the series on Thursday as they will take on New Jersey in the second game of a two game set.
