Nine-Run Third Snaps Tie

Scoring nine runs in the third inning the Calgary Vipers (25-23) blew open a tie game and defeated the Lake County Fielders 13-4 in the first game of a double-header featuring two seven inning games at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Calgary fell behind 3-0 after the top of the first inning but responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead before Lake County tied the game in the top of the third. At the plate Jimmy Rohan, Lino Garcia, and Justin Tellam led the way with Rohan collecting four hits, Garcia scoring three times, and Tellam collected four runs batted in.

On the mound Edward Valdez (4-3) went the distance for the complete seven inning game including seven strikeouts. Josh Hildebrand (0-2) took the loss after allowing ten runs in two and two-third innings.

Lake County jumped onto the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Derek Perren singled, David Coleman walked, Mark Samuelson doubled home both, and Colin Moro plate a run with a base hit for a 3-0 lead.

Calgary responded in the bottom of the first as Jonny Kaplan singled, Wilver Perez doubled, Kaplan scored on a throwing error, Jimmy Rohan singled which allowed Perez to score, Lino Garcia reached on a base hit, with two outs Drew Miller walked to load the bases, and on a nine pitch at-bat Justin Tellam singled in two for a 4-3 advantage.

The Fielders tied the game at 4-4 in the third frame when Franklyn Lopez singled and scored on a Moro double.

The Vipers answered in the bottom of the third as Garcia, Chad Ehrnsberger, and Miller all walked to load the bases, Tellam drove in two with a base hit, Edward Valdez laid down a sacrifice bunt, Kaplan tripled in two, Perez collected a sacrifice fly, Rohan singled, C.J. Ziegler walked, Garcia drove in one with a base hit, Ehrnsberger walked, Miller doubled in two, and Ehrnsberger scored on a passed ball for a nine-run inning and a 13-4 lead.

Game 2 of this double-header will start at 8:00.

Calgary welcomes the Chico Outlaws on Thursday July 28th at 6:30 for Ladies Night and Paint the Park Pink in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. On Friday July 29th at 6:30 it will be Christmas in July Night with Food Bank Donations being accepted, Dave the Horn Guy will perform on Saturday July 30th at 5:05, and on Sunday July 31st at 1:35 it will be 9-Inning Giveaway Day.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
