San Angelo Colts News Release

Edinburg, Texas---On Tuesday the Colts began their longest road trip of the year, twelve days in all. They would start it on the right foot as San Angelo would win game won 8-6 against the Roadrunners in the first of four. It was Colts pitching from start to finish and timely hitting that would propel the Colts to victory. The game was also redemption for a couple of Colts pitchers.

It was scoreless for the first three, but the Colts scored a pair in the top of the fourth, on a sac fly by Mark Ramos and an RBI single by Ronnie Gaines that put San Angelo up 2-0. Edinburg tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Stantrel Smith double that drove in two and it was knotted at 2-2. The Colts then scored four in the top of the sixth two on a two-out single by Cory Patton and a two-run homer by Daryl Jones and it was 6-2 Colts. The Roadrunners countered again with three of their own in the bottom of the sixth on a triple by Welington Dotel that drove in two and a suicide squeeze by Jonathan Fernandez and the Roadrunners cut it to 6-5.

Ronnie Gaines made it 7-5 in seventh when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Edinburg countered yet again with a homerun in the eighth by Welington Dotel (8) to cut it to 7-6. The Colts made it 8-6 in the top of the ninth when Danny Hernandez scored on a wild pitch. Lost in this game one win however, was great relief by the Colts bullpen in Gorman Romero, Kyle Boggio, Chace Vacek, Josh Giles and Sean Kramer, who threw three and two-thirds innings allowing just one earned run. Josh Giles made his debut, but Vacek and Kramer were able to redeem themselves after blowing saves three times in last four games. Both were terrific as Vacek was a big part of the win getting the Colts out of a bases loaded one out jam, after allowing a homerun in the last Colts loss. Kramer struck out two picking up a save (9) after two back-to-back nights of devastating losses where he allowed grand slams in the ninth in each of them.

Colts and Roadrunners go at it again in game two of this four game series on Wednesday. San Angelo will send out the other Kramer in righty Adam Kramer (1-1, 7.49) against fellow right-hander Toro Trevino (4-3, 5.30). It all begins with the Colts pre-game show at 6:45 p.m., with the first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. on 101.9 "The Fire".
