Calgary Vipers News Release
Led by starting pitcher Mark Michael the Calgary Vipers (36-23) defeated the Lake County Fielders (27-26) 4-1 in the second game of a double-header featuring two seven inning games at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Michael (6-2) was great in going five and a third innings while allowing only two hits for one run and striking out six batters. Offensively Calgary scored single runs in the third through the sixth innings and it was both Michael's and the team's fourth consecutive victory. With the sweep of the double-header and the three game series the Vipers increase their lead in the North Division to three games.
Out of the bullpen Chris Bodishbaugh closed on the sixth inning with two-thirds of an inning while Claudio Galva (14) recorded the save with a scoreless final inning including two punchouts.
At the plate Jeff Giacomini led the way with two hits and a run batted in.
Calgary opened the scoring in the bottom of the third inning when Jonny Kaplan walked, Wilver Perez singled, and Jimmy Rohan collected a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 advantage.
The Vipers doubled their lead to 2-0 in the fourth as Chad Ehrnsberger, Drew Miller, and Jeff Giacomini all singled for the one run.
Another run was added in the fifth frame by Calgary for a 3-0 advantage when Rohan singled, advanced to third base on a fielding error, and scored on a wild pitch.
Lake County got a run back in the sixth inning for a 3-1 score as Mark Samuelson was hit by a pitch, Franklyn Lopez singled, and Chris Brown collected a sacrifice fly on the defensive play of the game with a full speed sliding catch by Miller in left field.
In the bottom of the sixth the Vipers added another single for a 4-1 lead when Bryan Burke walked, stole second base, Perez was hit by a pitch, and Burke scored after a hard takeout slide at second base caused a throwing error.
