Greenville Drive News Release
Asheville, NC - A nine-run offensive explosion in the top of the sixth inning powered the Greenville Drive to a 10-6 win over the Asheville Tourists on Saturday night.
Nine runs is the Drive's (17-12, 42-56) highest-scoring inning of the season, and they tallied nine hits in the frame, which saw them overcome a 3-0 deficit. The big inning got started with a solo homer by Ryan Fitzgerald, marking his second straight game with a home run. Zach Sterry's RBI single trimmed the lead to one, and Jordan Wren put the Drive on top for good with a two-run double.
The inning was far from over, however. A Tourists (15-12, 42-54) error and a wild pitch plated two more runs against Austin Moore (1-3), and consecutive RBI hits by Fitzgerald, Marino Campana and Garrett Benge concluded the big inning.
Wren's big offensive night continued in the sixth when he cracked his first home run with the Drive, a solo blast over the center field wall. He finished the evening with two hits and three RBI.
Kutter Crawford (5-4) struck out seven Asheville hitters over five and two-third innings to earn the win for the Drive.
All six of Asheville's runs on Saturday came via the long ball. Casey Golden struck twice, as he hit a two-run homer in the first and a three-run blast in the ninth. In between, Ramon Marcelino hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Six Drive hitters put together multi-hit nights, as Wren was joined by Benge, Campana, Fitzgerald, Sterry and Kervin Suarez.
Marcos Lantigua threw two and one-third scoreless relief innings for the Drive on Saturday.
Sunday's series finale in Asheville will begin at 2:05 PM. The Drive will send right-hander Hildemaro Requena (3-2, 5.09) to the mound against Tourists left-hander Lucas Gilbreath (4-6, 5.11).
