Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE - Things looked all well and good for the Asheville Tourists through five innings on Saturday night. The Greenville Drive had not scored and recorded only two hits. Asheville enjoyed a 3-0 lead. Frederis Parra was cruising. Then, out of nowhere, the wheels fell off.
The top of the sixth inning turned into a marathon. The Drive sent 15 batters to the plate, scored nine runs, pounded out nine hits, and kept Asheville in the field for 40 minutes. Mix in two hit-by-pitches, one error, and a third strike wild pitch and the Drive led 9-3 when the inning finally ended.
The Drive had three players record multiple base hits in the sixth inning alone. Needless to say, it is the biggest inning the Tourists have allowed an opponent to rack up all year.
Asheville received a first inning two-run Home Run from Casey Golden and a solo blast from Ramon Marcelino in the fourth. Golden struck again int the bottom of the ninth with a three-run Homer. Casey now has five multi-Home Run games this season.
The Drive added another run in the seventh and eventually won the game 10-6. Sean Bouchard and Ryan Vilade each notched three hits for the Tourists in the loss.
Asheville and Greenville wrap up their four-game series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch slated for 2:05pm. The Tourists will attempt to split the series while the Drive will be looking for their fifth win in six games against Asheville.
