Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 3/11/08 - Amarillo has now won three out of four games with their 6-2 victory over the Tulsa Oilers on Tuesday night at the Amarillo Civic Center. David Nimmo recorded his third hat-trick of the season, and second in the last three games. Both came against Tulsa as Nimmo led the Gorillas to a come from behind overtime win against the Oilers on Friday with his three goal, two assist performance.
In five games in the month of March, Nimmo has recorded fifteen points and has increased his lead in the rookie scoring race to twenty-two points over second place. Having set all the Gorillas rookie scoring records already, Nimmo's three goals tonight also tied him with the all-time Gorillas single season goal record of 38, set by Scott Wray in 2005-06.
The Gorillas also had big contributions from Bill Vandermeer who tallied two goals and two assists, giving him 31 goals on the year and 74 points overall. Player/Assistant Coach Chris Lipsett pitched in with a three point night (1-2-3) and goaltender Dan McWhinney was big in net, turning aside 27 of the 29 shots he faced. The Amarillo power-play once again led the way, going 4-8, while holding Tulsa to 1-6 on the man advantage.
The Gorillas moved into the fifth and final playoff spot with the win, now leading Austin by one point in the race for the postseason as both clubs now have six games remaining. The Gorillas hit the road for a pair of games this weekend in Arizona on Friday and Saturday night. Both games will start at 9:05 PM CST.
