Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed free agent center Chris Stanley. Terms of the deal, which will be official Wednesday, were not disclosed. Stanley will be in the line-up this weekend when the Bucks travel to Youngstown.

Stanley was a fourth round draft pick (#90 overall) by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1997 NHL entry draft.

To make room for Stanley on the roster the Bucks released rookie Corey Courchene.

From 2000-2004 Stanley played four years of college hockey with Bucks defenseman David Walker at Dalhousie University in Canada.

"Chris will hopefully be one of the ingredients to help us win another championship", said Bucks head coach/GM Terry Ruskowski. "He is a quality player, and a quality person. We are lucky to have him here".

Stanley, 6'2, 210lbs, comes to the Bucks having spent the last two seasons overseas, he arrived in Laredo after finishing up his season last week in Italy with Asiago HC. Stanley led Asiago in scoring, netting 18 goals with 19 assists for 37 points in 32 games.

In the 2006-07 season the Parry Sound, Ontario native had his best statistical year as a professional. He put up 86 points (44-42=86) in 50 games in playing overseas for the Hellibronn Falcons.

"Chris is a bigger guy, he can control the puck and the play for us", Ruskowski said. "He will strengthen our offense, no doubt."

In his first two pro seasons (2004-06) Stanley played for the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, where he totaled 86 points (40-46=86) in 125 games.

In his four years at Dalhousie University, Stanley had 159 points (61-98=159) in 111 games. Prior to college the center iceman played four years of junior hockey, all for the Belleville Bulls of the OHL. While with the Bulls Stanley piled up 220 points (94-126=220) in 251 games.

The Bucks released Corchene, who put up only eight points this season (2-6=8) in 40 games, and had a team-worst -7 plus/minus rating.

Serge Dube will be activated from the 14-day IR this week, and be back in the line-up Friday, with Steve Simoes going back on the 14-day IR. Dube has not played since Laredo's February 23rd win in Rio.

As of Tuesday afternoon the Bucks need three points to clinch the number one seed in the Southern Conference, an Arizona loss to New Mexico Tuesday night would put the Bucks just one point away from clinching the South.

The Bucks held practice on Tuesday, the team will fly out of Laredo Wednesday morning at 7:40am for Youngstown. The Bucks will meet the Steelhounds in a three game series this Friday thru Sunday.
