Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign, four-time Pacific Division Championships and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, announced the return of defenseman Jake Newton from his 18-game run with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Newton, 25, scored two goals for the Sound Tigers, one in his debut game, and recorded six assists for a total of eight points. In 36 games with the Reign, the blueliner racked up 29 points (12g, 17a); enough to keep him in the top 20 rankings for all ECHL defensemen in about half of the games played by most defensemen.

During the 2013-14 season, Newton's consistent play lead him to a six-game point streak from Dec. 6 through Dec. 21 totaling six points (1g, 5a), and four, three-game point streaks.

In other transactions, defenseman Sacha Guimond was released from his contract. Guimond was acquired in a trade with Gwinnett earlier this season and appeared in 33 games for Ontario. In that time he posted 14 points (1g, 13a).
