Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that play-by-play radio announcer Owen Newkirk was named the United Hockey League's 2005-2006 Broadcaster of the Year.

Elmira's own play-by-play voice of the Jackals, Owen Newkirk, has been awarded with the Broadcaster of the Year distinction for the UHL's 2005-2006 season. Newkirk just completed his third season as the Jackals broadcaster, since coming to Elmira for the 2003-04 season. In his first year with the club he was fortunate enough to see the Jackals go all the way to the Colonial Cup Finals, the team's second trip to the UHL's championship round.

This is the first-ever front office award received by any member of the Jackals in team history. The Jackals as an organization was named UHL Member Club of the Year during their inaugural 2000-2001 season. The Broadcaster of the Year award is selected annually by the League's public relations directors and broadcasters.

After completing their 6th season in franchise history in the UHL, the Jackals are gearing up for Season 7. Season tickets for the 2006-2007 UHL season are on sale now at the First Arena Box Office. For more information call 607-734-PUCK (7825).
