Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY (April 7, 2011) - Peter Holland recorded three points (1g, 2a) and the game-winning goal in his professional debut, and Igor Bobkov stopped 43 of 46 shots in his first pro game, as the Syracuse Crunch scored a season-high four power play goals en route to a 5 -3 win tonight over the Norfolk Admirals at The Oncenter War Memorial Arena.

Patrick Maroon scored twice, while Kyle Palmieri added his team leading 28th goal of the season for the Crunch, all on the man-advantage. Palmieri is now two goals shy of tying the Crunch all-time mark for goals in a season by a rookie (30), a record shared by Lonny Bohonos and Geoff Platt.

The Crunch got the scoring started six and a half minutes into the game after Norfolk's Scott Jackson was whistled off for hooking at the 5:21 mark. Josh Green worked to get the puck to Nicolas Deschamps in the near corner, who quickly fed it to a waiting Palmieri. Palmieri rifled a slapper from the high slot to the top right corner past Jaroslav Janus to put the home team up 1-0.

Norfolk answered with a man-advantage goal of its own just under three minutes later when Paul Szczechura got a stick on a loose puck in front of the Crunch cage that trickled over the goal line to knot the score at 1-1.

The Crunch re-claimed the lead just over three minutes later on the power play, when Nick Bonino found Maroon camped out at the top of the crease for the tap-in tally to make it 2-1.

Maroon added another power play marker 6:42 into the second stanza when he dug out a rebound from a Deschamps point shot and powered the puck past a sprawling Janus to put the Crunch up 3-1 through two periods.

Norfolk dominated the first half of the third period and tied the game at 3-3 after goals from Pierre-Cedric Labrie and Marc-Antoine Pouliot at the 9:35 and 10:36 marks, respectively.

Pouliot's goal was another of the power play variety, coming after the Crunch were penalized for a bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The Crunch stuck with the game plan and it paid off when they drew a holding the stick penalty to Janus at the 14:16 mark, setting up Syracuse's fourth man-advantage marker of the night.

Holland took a feed from Bonino, faked a slapshot, then ripped a wrister that found its way through a screen past Janus from the top of the right circle to give the Crunch back the lead at 4-3.

Norfolk pulled Janus for the extra attacker late, but Deschamps added an empty-netter with 25 seconds left to finish off the Admirals, 5-3.
