Omaha Lancers News Release
Plymouth, MI - Newcomer Filip Suchy made his presence felt in the second period with a pair of goals leading the Lancers to a 4-1 victory at USA Hockey Arena on Friday night.
Brannon McManus pushed his point streak to five-games with an assist in the first period. Pierce Crawford scored for the third straight game. Peter Thome picked up his fifth straight win, the longest win streak of his junior career.
For the seventh time in the young nine-game season the Lancers scored first. After being shut out last Saturday night the Lancer power play went to work early on. It took a mere 0:26 for Brannon McManus to connect with Emilio Pettersen to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. McManus set up in his usual spot on below the left circle drawing the defense to him. He quickly fired a cross-ice pass to Emilio Pettersen who scored his third of the season. Before the period was over Team USA got an equalizer from Jake Goldowski to send the two teams into the intermission tied at 1-1.
In the second period newcomer Filip Suchy made his presence felt. Suchy deflected a puck past Keegan Karki in the USA net just over halfway through the middle frame for his first career USHL goal and a 2-1 Lancers lead. The Czech Republic native didn't waste much time recording his second USHL goal. Erlends Klavins won an offensive zone draw getting the puck to Suchy who ripped a wrist shot past Ryan Ullin to push the lead to 3-1.
The final frame of regulation saw the teams trade scoring opportunities but neither team was able to capitalize till the final moments. With the net empty Pierce Crawford sent a shot from center ice into the wide open cage icing the 4-1 victory, giving the Lancers their fifth consecutive win.
Peter Thome had 29 saves in the victory, his fifth straight. On the other end Keegan Karki and Ryan Ullin split the game. Karki made 14 saves on 16 shots, taking the loss, while Ullin made 8 saves on 9 shots.
Omaha finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play.
