The New York Red Bulls (5-6-3, 18 pts) suffered a 1-0 defeat to D.C. United (6-7-2, 20 pts) at Audi Field on Sunday night.
Following a defensive error in the back from New York, D.C. United midfielder Julian Gressel crossed in a ball to the feet of forward Ola Kamara, who tapped it in the back of the net to give D.C. the lead in the 27th minute.
Midfielder Caden Clark returned to the starting lineup for the first time since July 18 after undergoing an appendectomy.
Red Bulls captain Sean Davis made his 152nd MLS regular season appearance, moving only eight appearances shy of passing Dane Richards for fifth all-time in franchise history.
Following Sunday's match, New York returns to Red Bull Arena for a two match homestand, beginning with the New England Revolution on Saturday, July 31.
