Red Bull New York News Release

RED BULLS START FIVE-GAME HOMESTAND AGAINST CHIVAS USA: The New York Red Bulls look to get the ball rolling by kicking off a five-game homestand Saturday night when they host Chivas USA at Giants Stadium at 7:00 PM ET (TV: MSG; Radio: WADO 1280 AM).

New York has not played a regular season match since July 25 - a 4-0 loss on the road to the Colorado Rapids. However, the Red Bulls just competed in the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League, falling 4-3 on aggregate to Trinidad and Tobago squad, W Connection. The Red Bulls are 2-4-3 this season at Giants Stadium and will be hosting a Chivas USA side that is coming off a 4-0 loss to the Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Conor Casey tallied a hat trick for the Rapids while Pablo Mastroeni scored a goal just 26 seconds in. Chivas USA defender Shavar Thomas will miss Saturday's tilt after earning a red card in first half stoppage time versus Colorado.

After coming out of the gate with the best record in MLS, the Goats have struggled, going 1-7-2 in their last 10. Eduardo Lillingston leads Chivas USA with six goals while Gerson Mayen has a team-high four assists. Chivas USA also features midfielder Sacha Kljestan and defender Jonathan Bornstein - both of whom were with the United States National Team at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.

The Red Bulls are 3-2-3 all-time against Chivas USA and won last year's season series with a 1-0-1 record. On June 5, the Red Bulls defeated Chivas USA, 1-0, at Giants Stadium behind a Juan Pablo Angel goal. The two teams tied 1-1 at The Home Depot Center on June 28 - Red Bulls midfielder Dave van den Bergh and Chivas USA forward Ante Razov were the goalscorers. New York and Chivas USA will also play on Sept. 26 at The Home Depot Center.

RED BULLS ELIMINATED BY W CONNECTION IN CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: The New York Red Bulls fell 4-3 on aggregate in its 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League Preliminary Round series against Trinidad and Tobago club, W Connection, after losing the second leg, 2-1, at Giants Stadium on Aug. 5. The Red Bulls are eliminated from the tournament while W Connection advances to the Group Stage. New York tied W Connection 2-2 in the first leg in Marabella, Trinidad and Tobago on June 30.

W Connection had the first opportunity of the match in the eighth minute when William Silva De Oliveira was put into the Red Bulls' half with space after he made a diagonal run. However, he wasn't able to put his shot on frame. Six minutes later, defender Mike Petke headed a corner kick back into the box that W Connection goalkeeper Marvin Phillip had to punch away.

In the 16th minute, forward John Wolyniec nearly put the Red Bulls ahead, connecting on an Albert Celades free kick and putting it over the bar. Soon after though, Wolyniec helped the Red Bulls earn the lead. Jorge Rojas made a streaking run into the W Connection half and played a give-and-go with Ernst Oebster. Rojas found Wolyniec and the forward one-timed it under a sprawling Phillip and into the net.

New York nearly doubled its lead in the 31st minute. Jeremy Hall had space on the right wing and delivered a cross to an open Rojas, who volleyed it from close range at Phillip. Philip, however, was able to knock it away.

The visitors tied the second leg and the series five minutes from halftime. Clyde Leon found Andre Toussaint with time in New York's defensive half. Toussaint dribbled the ball towards the box before creating enough space to fire a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Danny Cepero and inside the right post.

Toussaint then gave W Connection their first lead of the game in first half stoppage time. Red Bulls defender Kevin Goldthwaite tried to pass it from the top of New York's penalty box, but Toussaint was there to intercept it and went near post with his shot, sliding it into the net.

Cepero was called upon to make a save in the 48th minute, as Hughton Hector got free on the left side of the penalty box and blasted an attempt that the goalkeeper punched away. Less than 10 minutes later, Red Bulls midfielder Seth Stammler had a good look of goal, but he pushed his shot wide left.

The Red Bulls kept knocking on the door in the 62nd minute. Oebster found Celades at the top of the box and his one-time try was blocked by a fully-extended Phillip. Nine minutes after, Celades cut it to his left foot and hit a blast over the bar from 20-yards-out.

Red Bulls midfielder Matthew Mbuta entered the match with 10 minutes left to play and immediately had a good chance to score after he weaved through the W Connection defense and rifled a shot that went right at Phillip.

New York was missing the services of forward Juan Pablo Angel (concussion), defender Carlos Johnson (metatarsal recovery) and forward Macoumba Kandji (right hamstring strain) due to injury. The Red Bulls were competing in their first CONCACAF Champions League after qualifying by virtue of being a 2008 MLS Cup Finalist.

PACHECO, RICHARDS ON INTERNATIONAL DUTY: New York Red Bulls defender Alfredo Pacheco (El Salvador) and midfielder Dane Richards (Jamaica) have been called up by their respective national teams.

Pacheco has been called in for El Salvador's World Cup Qualifying match against Trinidad and Tobago on August 12 at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. El Salvador currently sits in fifth place in the Hexagonal group on five points (1-2-2). Pacheco has 70 caps for the Salvadoran National Team and has scored six goals.

Richards has been called in for Jamaica's friendly match against Ecuador on August 12 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Richards has 13 caps for the Jamaican national team.

Neither player is expected to miss any matches with the New York Red Bulls due to international duty.

UBIPARIPOVIC SUSPENDED: Red Bulls midfielder Sinisa Ubiparipovic is suspended for Saturday's match against Chivas USA after earning a red card in first half stoppage time in New York's last League match - a 4-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids on July 25.

ANGEL ONE AWAY: Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel, a finalist for the 2007 Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player Award, scored his team-high seventh goal in New York's 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy on July 16. Angel is now in sole possession of second place for goals scored in regular season matches - just one goal shy of tying Giovanni Savarese's team record. He has a 0.60 goals per game average, which is tops in club history. Angel is two goals away from the record for goals scored in all competitions.
