HARRISON, NJ (August 7, 2014) - New York Red Bulls Under-23 midfielder Victor Manosalvas was awarded the 2014 Mitre Golden Ball by the National Premier Soccer League on Thursday. The award is given to the NPSL's Player of the Year.
"This award means a lot to me, coming into my senior year of college especially, it gives me a little boost of confidence," said Manosalvas. "It's a great award because we had a really great season and I couldn't have done it without the help of coach Simon (Nee) and all of my teammates."
Along with winning the Golden Ball Award, Manosalvas, along with two other players, were awarded the PUMA Golden Boot for the league's top goal scorer.
"I am delighted for Victor that he has been recognized for an excellent season," said U23 head coach Simon Nee. "Victor is intelligent, technically gifted play maker that has been an integral part of the team success. His attitude, work rate and professionalism support his desire to play at the next level."
"He is a first class individual and a pleasure to coach. I have enjoyed watching him play and develop with the club this summer."
Manosalvas, who scored 12 goals and added seven assists this season, helped lead his team to the 2014 NPSL Championship where they defeated Chattanooga FC 3-1 at Red Bull Arena on August 2. Manosalvas and the Red Bulls capped off an undefeated season with the win over Chattanooga.
Manosalvas is set to enter his red-shirt senior season at Seton Hall University after missing the 2012 season with an injury. In 2013, the midfielder recorded a team high five assists for the Pirates. Manosalvas has seven career assists and has added one goal in his three seasons at Seton Hall.
