New York Red Bulls News Release

HARRISON, N.J. (September 22, 2015) - Two New York Red Bulls defenders, Matt Miazga and Kemar Lawrence, have been named to the MLS "24 Under 24" list, which ranks the best players in the league under 24 years old. Miazga is fifth on the list, while Lawrence comes in at 15th.

Miazga, a native of Clifton, N.J., has been an integral piece for the Red Bulls this season. New York is 14-5-5 with him in the lineup. Per Opta, he is third in MLS with 106 aerials won this season. He is also third in the league in clearances (156) and headed clearances with 114. Miazga got his first career goal against New York City FC on June 28 at Yankee Stadium.

Miazga only missed time to compete with the United States Under-20 team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in June. The center back has transitioned seamlessly to the U-23 team after turning 20 later in the Summer. He joined the U-23s for a camp in August, and last week was named to the roster for a CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in October.

Lawrence, a left back, joined New York during preseason and quickly established himself as a starter. The Jamaican has made 19 league starts and accumulated four assists, including three game-winners. He also featured for the Reggae Boyz this summer at both the Copa America and Gold Cup.

Three other current Red Bulls - Dax McCarty, Conor Lade, and Felipe have previously appeared on the 24 under 24 list, which originated in 2010.

According to MLS, the rankings are determined by a panel of soccer media members across the US and Canada who regularly cover MLS, including from ESPN, Fox, RDS, SI.com, FoxSports.com, Goal.com, and, of course, the editorial staff at MLSsoccer.com.

A 75-player short list was selected by a preliminary panel of MLSsoccer.com editors and external constituents, and then the larger panel rated the 75 players based on the following criteria: technical ability, soccer IQ, physical attributes, personality, and potential.

The Red Bulls are back in action Friday night with a home match against Orlando City SC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with coverage on Univision.
