
New York Red Bulls Forward Bradley Wright-Phillips Unanimously Voted MLS Player of the Week

HARRISON, NJ (September 22, 2014) - New York Red Bulls forward and MLS Golden Boot leader Bradley Wright-Phillips was unanimously voted MLS Player of the Week today. Wright-Phillips recorded his third hat trick of the season in a 4-1 Red Bulls win over Western Conference leader Seattle Sounders FC Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd of 25,000 at Red Bull Arena.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR). This is only the fourth time a player ever has been unanimously voted MLS Player of the Week.
Following Saturday's performance, Wright-Phillips, who has 24 goals in his first full season in the League, is just three goals shy with five games remaining of the MLS single season record set by Roy Lassiter and Chris Wondolowski. It is the second time that Wright-Phillips won the MLS Player of the Week award this year (Week 8 was the other) .

This season, Wright-Phillips has made 27 appearances (24 starts). The last time that Wright-Phillips went two-straight games without scoring a goal was on April 12 (at D.C. United) and April 16 (vs. Philadelphia Union). Wright-Phillips joined the Red Bulls on July 24, 2013 after playing for several English clubs (PLAYER BIO LINK) .
The Red Bulls (10-8-11, 41 pts.), unbeaten in their last four and just a point shy of third place in the Eastern Conference, return to action on Wednesday, September 24, when they travel to El Salvador to take on C.D. FAS in CONCACAF Champions League group play at 10:00 PM (TV: Fox Sports 2).
New York returns to MLS regular-season action next Sunday, September 28, when the team travels to Los Angeles to take on the Galaxy. Kickoff is set for 8:30 PM ET with ESPN televising the game nationally.
