TORONTO, ON (May 17, 2014) - The New York Red Bulls dropped a 2-0 decision to Toronto FC at BMO Field Saturday afternoon. Despite mounting a strong effort in the second half, the Red Bulls were unable to overcome Jermain Defoe's 12th minute opening goal. Toronto FC (4-4-0, 12 pts.) completed the scoring and secured the full three points with a second half stoppage time tally, as New York stayed at 14 points with a 3-4-5 record following the loss.

Red Bulls midfielder Jonny Steele nearly put the visitors up in the sixth minute, chipping it goalbound following a New York counterattack and forcing goalkeeper Joe Bendik to tip the shot away. On the other end, Defoe got free in the box and fired it right at New York goalkeeper Luis Robles.

Defoe gave the hosts the lead in the 12th minute. Bradley Orr won the ball in midfield and slipped Defoe in down the right side. Defoe drove towards goal and ripped it underneath the crossbar and into the back of the net.

After the break, New York looked the stronger of the two sides and nearly got an equalizer in the 62nd minute, as Thierry Henry knocked it towards the back post and MLS Golden Boot leader Bradley Wright-Phillips had an open look but put it high.

With the Red Bulls pushed forward, Toronto FC wrapped up the three points in second half stoppage time. Off a Toronto long pass, Robles and defender Chris Duvall collided at the top of the box trying to go for the ball. Toronto forward Luke Moore was able to run onto the loose ball and put it into the empty net.
