Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
FRISCO, Texas - Chivas USA battled FC Dallas to a 1-1 draw Saturday night to secure a road point at Toyota Stadium and deliver their second-straight result. The Red-and-White took the initial lead on Homegrown product Marco Delgado 's first career goal in the second half. FCD equalized late in the match on Fabian Castillo's tally for the clubs to split points in the Western Conference showdown.
After the sides looked to get on the front foot and gain an edge in ball possession in the first part of the first half, the Rojiblancos generated the first scoring threat of the match in the 23rd minute. Forward Erick Torres was taken down outside of the box and to the left of the arc to set up a free kick from about 22 yards out. Midfielder Mauro Rosales then fired directly at goal but could not get the shot on frame, as the strike sailed wide left of the post.
Six minutes later, Rosales played a free kick into the box from long distance along the right seam. Center back and Captain Carlos Bocanegra managed to get on the end of the entry, but his header attempt also traveled wide.
Chivas USA took the lead in the 60th minute when Rosales took control of a pass sent to him from across the pitch inside the right edge of the box. Rosales then worked the ball toward the six-yard box near the end line to set up Delgado's one-time tap-in that was drilled to the back of the net inside the near post.
The Red-and-White nearly doubled their lead in the 71st minute on Martin Rivero's strike from behind the arc. The midfielder's shot was on frame but FCD goalkeeper Raul Fernandez just managed to keep the ball out with a one-handed diving save to his left to keep the match at 1-0 heading into the final quarter of the contest.
FCD pulled even in the 83rd minute when Jair Benitez found Castillo inside the six-yard box with a cross from the right side. With a crowd near the mouth of the goal, Castillo placed his shot to the back of the net with a short side tap-in. Chivas brought on their final substitution with three minutes left in regulation and with five minutes of stoppage time added, held on to turn away the home side's late attack to keep the result locked at one.
Chivas USA now have a week off from league play and will resume action on Wednesday, May 28, when they host the Portland Timbers in the second leg of the season series at the StubHub Center. The match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (PT) and can be heard on ESPN Deportes Radio KWKU 1220 AM. For more information visit cdchivasusa.com and follow the club on Twitter and Facebook.
