HARRISON, NJ "" Leading MLS goalscorer Bradley Wright-Phillips notched his second hat trick of the year and the Red Bulls mounted a furious comeback from being down 5-2, but New York fell, 5-4, to the Chicago Fire Saturday night at Red Bull Arena in front of a crowd of 23,776 spectators in a thrilling contest.

Playing in his last match before departing for 2014 FIFA World Cup duty, midfielder Tim Cahill also found the back of the net, as New York stayed at 14 points with a 3-3-5 record and in a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference following the defeat.

New York's next match is on Saturday, May 17 against Toronto FC at 4:30 PM at BMO Field (TV: MSG). Tickets are on sale now for the Red Bulls' next home game at Red Bull Arena against the Portland Timbers on Saturday, May 24 at 7:00 PM by calling 1.877.727.6223 or logging onto tickets.newyorkredbulls.com.

Chicago took the lead in the fourth minute in controversial fashion after Harrison Shipp's curler zipped past Fire forward Mike Magee and found the lower corner of the net. New York argued that Magee, who appeared offside, interfered with the play, but referee Kevin Stott let the goal stand.

New York responded almost immediately and tied the match. Midfielder Eric Alexander curled a cross from the left wing towards the back post that was met by Cahill, who nodded it in for his first goal of the season.

The Red Bulls then took a 2-1 lead with six minutes left to play in the first half. Thierry Henry got the ball in midfield and raced towards goal, beating his defender before chipping it across the box. Wright-Phillips was there to knock it home for his sixth goal in four matches.

Chicago tied the game in the 49th minute. Jeff Larentowicz played a long pass into the box that was flicked on by Quincy Amarikwa and into the back of the net. Four minutes later, Shipp scored his second, taking a Patrick Nyarko pass and slotting it into the lower left hand corner of the goal.

The Fire kept piling it on and Shipp completed his hat trick in the 58th minute, stealing the ball in New York's end and tucking it past goalkeeper Luis Robles to record a hat trick. Then in the 64th minute, Nyarko's intended cross from the right wing floated over Robles and found the net's top corner to make it 5-2.

However, New York did not give up and their persistence paid off three minutes following Nyarko's tally. Jonny Steele's pass into the box was chested down by Lloyd Sam to Wright-Phillips, who volleyed it in. With 12 minutes to play, Henry was fouled in the box by Jhon Kennedy Hurtado and Wright-Phillips stepped up and converted the penalty kick to put New York within one.

The Red Bulls exerted a significant amount of pressure on the Fire for the remainder of the contest with Henry having his shot saved by goalkeeper Sean Johnson. Wright-Phillips nearly had the equalizer on the last play of the game, connecting on a scissor kick. However, the ball went straight at Johnson, who caught the shot.
