Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (3-3-3, 12 points) returns to Crew Stadium following a two-match road swing and completes a stretch of three matches in seven days tonight against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (3-2-4, 14 points) at 7:30 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is set televising the game, with Dwight Burgess, Chris Doran and Ashleigh Ignelzi on the call. Neil Sika is set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM.
Tonight's contest marks the only meeting between the Crew and Whitecaps FC in 2014. The Black & Gold fell 2-1 in the lone battle against Vancouver during the 2013 season. In just the fifth regular-season clash in the all-time series, tonight also marks the third-ever trip to Crew Stadium for Whitecaps FC, and first since 2012.
The Black & Gold look to continue securing points at Crew Stadium this weekend after posting 1-1 draws in their last two contests in front of their home fans. The Crew's most recent home tilt saw a season-high 18,026 attendance mark at One Black & Gold Boulevard. This weekend, Crew midfielder and Vice Captain Wil Trapp is available for selection after serving a mandatory one-match suspension on Wednesday in Houston for a red card issued in Sunday's loss at Sporting Kansas City.
The first 5,000 youth fans in attendance tonight receive a mini soccer ball courtesy of OhioHealth. There is also another Post-Match Autograph session for fans following the conclusion of the match.
