NEW YORK, N.Y., November 14, 2019 - New York City FC this week announced the Club's award winners for the 2019 season.
Each year, the Club selects a Newcomer of the Year, Defender of the Year, and Team MVP. Below you will find the winners and a brief bio on their 2019 season.
Hèber - NYCFC Newcomer of the Year
The Brazilian striker finished his debut season as the Club's top scorer, netting 15 times in 22 appearances in the regular season after signing from HNK Rijeka in March.
In 2019, Héber became the first NYCFC player to score in five consecutive games.
He was nominated for the league-wide Newcomer of the Year award and finished second in the voting.
Maxime Chanot - NYCFC Defender of the Year
The Luxembourg international played 2,790 minutes this season after starting and appearing in 31 regular season matches.
His performances at the heart of the NYCFC defense helped lead the team to a first place finish in the Eastern Conference and secured Concacaf Champions League qualification for the first time in Club history.
This is Chanot's first time receiving this honor.
Maxi Moralez - NYCFC Team MVP
In 2019, the Argentine midfielder was selected to the 2019 MLS All-Star team and became the third player in MLS history to record 20 assists.
He added seven goals in his 29 regular season appearances and became the second player in NYCFC history to be named to the MLS Best XI team.
Moralez was named MLS Player of the Month for the month of June in which he scored three goals and added six assists.
