SEATTLE, WASH. - Sounders FC today announced a number of stops on a tour of Seattle for both of its Philip F. Anschtuz Trophies. Colloquially known as the MLS Cup, the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy is awarded to Major League Soccer's champion each season. On Sunday, Sounders FC claimed its second MLS Cup in front of a historic home crowd at CenturyLink Field, defeating Toronto FC 3-1. The club captured its first MLS Cup title in 2016, winning a penalty-kick shootout at BMO Field in Toronto.
After touring the city with its first MLS Cup in 2016, Sounders FC has once again planned opportunities to share its newest trophy with the public. This year, both the 2016 and 2019 MLS Cups will travel to various locations Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, giving fans opportunities to take photos and share in the success that their passion helps bring the club.
Friday's slate of stops begins with the Cups taking several roundtrips with ferry commuters making their way back and forth from Seattle to Bainbridge Island aboard the Wenatchee. The Cups will be on display for multiple sailings starting with the 7:05 a.m. PT sailing out of Seattle. It will disembark the ferry in Seattle following the 9:40 a.m. PT sailing from Bainbridge Island. Media interested in joining for any portion of the ferry rides may contact Kelly Schutz of Sounders FC Communications [KellyS@SoundersFC.com] or Kathy Mesa of Washington State Ferries Communications [Mesak@wsdot.wa.gov, 206-375-4274]. Fans are invited to join these trips alongside daily commuters.
The trophies then continue to Seattle Aquarium, where they will be available for visitors from 12:00-1:30 p.m. PT, based outside of the aquarium's Window on Washington Waters display. This 120,000-gallon exhibit features a 20x40 foot viewing window into the sea life of Washington's outer coast, and the aquarium displayed its Sounders spirit during the playoffs by adding a Sounders flag to the display.
Next, the Cups continue to the iconic Space Needle, where they will be set up on the public plaza outside the Space Needle from 2:00-3:30 p.m. PT, followed by the final stop of the day at the Columbia Center's Cherry Plaza from 4:00-5:30 p.m. PT. Fans stopping by Columbia Center should direct themselves to the building's 5th Avenue entrance and follow signage to the Cherry Plaza.
On Saturday, the Cups begin their day in the historic Fishermen's Terminal, where they can be found from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. PT at local letterpress greeting card company, Constellation & Co, which is owned by Sounders FC supporter Sara McNally.
The day continues at Woodland Park Zoo from 12:30-2:00 p.m. PT, in the plaza at the zoo's West Entrance, located at Phinney Avenue N. between N. 55th and N. 56th Streets. Zoo admission is not required for fans to come enjoy the trophies. Woodland Park Zoo utilized Sounders FC soccer balls in its animal enrichment activities during the team's playoff run and flew a Sounders FC flag, showing passion for its local soccer team.
The final stop on the tour will take place at the Pro Shop at CenturyLink Field from 3:00-5:00 p.m. PT on Saturday. Fans are encouraged to come by and see the trophies and browse MLS Cup Championship merchandise. There is no purchase required for photos with the MLS Cups.
