
New Orleans' Wimprine, New York's Brown, And Cleveland's Redd Earn Week Two Honors

NEW YORK - New Orleans VooDoo QB DANNY WIMPRINE, New York Dragons DB LEVY BROWN, and Cleveland Gladiators WR/DB ROBERT REDD have been named Offensive Player, ADT Defensive Player, and Ironman of the Week, respectively, for Week 2 of the 2008 season.
OFFENSIVE: Wimprine (6-3, 236, Memphis) completed 27-of-37 passes for 309 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions as the VooDoo (1-1) defeated the Orlando Predators (0-2), 54-53, at New Orleans Arena on Sunday. Wimprine, in his first AFL start, led New Orleans on four consecutive scoring drives in the first half and his passer rating of 140.0 ranked highest among all quarterbacks during Week 2 action. The VooDoo welcomes the Tampa Bay Storm (2-0) on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. ET in a Mitsubishi Motors Southern Division matchup.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Brown (5-11, 200, Florida A&M) recorded a team-high six-and-a-half tackles, two interceptions and two passes defensed as the New York Dragons (1-1) defeated the Kansas City Brigade (0-2), 50-47, at Nassau Coliseum on Sunday. Brown, who won af2 ADT Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2007, notched his first interception on the Brigade's first possession of the third quarter, ending Kansas City's scoring opportunity on the Dragons 10-yard line. Brown's second interception came in New York's end zone with 10 seconds remaining, sealing the victory with the Dragons ahead by three and the Brigade threatening from New York's four-yard line. His two passes defensed came on consecutive plays, ending Kansas City's first offensive possession with a turnover on downs. The Dragons travel to Wachovia Center to face the Philadelphia Soul (2-0) on Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. ET (MSG Plus, SDD; CSN Philadelphia - Delay, 3/16 at 7 p.m. ET) in a battle between Mitsubishi Motors Eastern Division rivals.
IRONMAN: Redd (5-10, 195, Bowling Green) registered seven receptions for 105 yards and three touchdowns on offense as the Cleveland Gladiators (2-0) defeated the Utah Blaze (0-2) 66-63 at Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday. On defense, Redd posted three-and-a-half tackles and one fumble recovery as the Gladiators held the Blaze to seven points on two possessions with one defensive stop in the third quarter. Redd's third touchdown reception, a 34-yard pass from QB RAYMOND PHILYAW with 9:34 remaining, gave Cleveland a 17-point lead and helped seal the victory. The Gladiators travel to Nationwide Arena to face the Columbus Destroyers (0-2) in the inaugural "Battle of the Buckeye State" on Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m. ET (AFL NET, ESPN360.com, SportsTime Ohio, Columbus Sports Network).

ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Dallas DB Bobby Perry, Los Angeles DB Damen Wheeler, New Orleans DB Calvin Spears and DB Keon Raymond, Tampa Bay DB Traco Rachal, and San Jose DB Clevan Thomas.
Ironman of the Week candidates included: New Orleans FB/LB Henry Bryant, Philadelphia DB Mike Brown, San Jose FB/LB Phil Glover, and Tampa Bay FB/LB Torrance Marshall.
