New Orleans VooDoo make 14 picks in expansion draft

The New Orleans VooDoo participated in the Arena Football League's Expansion Draft today, selecting 14 players. With the first pick in the draft, they chose DB Chris Brown, who played in his rookie season with the Georgia Force. Out of the 14 players chosen, six are on the exempt list, as they are currently on NFL rosters. The club also traded their pick in the 11th round to the Tampa Bay Storm in exchange for DB Lance Frazier

A synopsis of the picks by round:

Round 1: DB Chris Brown (6-1, 185, Georgia Southern) - Brown had an impressive rookie season with the Georgia Force, recording 124 total tackles and had four interceptions. Three of those four interceptions were returned for touchdowns, which tied for the league lead.

Round 2: FB/LB Justin Brown (6-2, 260, East Central Oklahoma) -- Brown was chosen from the Dallas Desperados. Brown played DE for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe in 2006 and went to training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.

Round 3: OL/DL Tango McCauley (6-4, 205, Alabama State) - Chosen from Chicago, McCauley spent his rookie season as part of a line that was instrumental in protecting the quarterback en route to the Rush winning ArenaBowl XX. He played in 15 games and recorded 2.5 tackles and one pass broken up.

Round 4: DB Dwaine Carpenter (6-2, 215, North Carolina A&T) - Chosen from Arizona, Carpenter has spent the past four seasons in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and most recently the St. Louis Rams, recording 74 tackles, two sacks, one interception and seven passes defensed. Carpenter played for the Buffalo Destroyers from 2002-03 and recorded 126 tackles and 11 interceptions.

Round 5: WR/DB Troy Mason (5-9, 170, UNLV) - Mason was chosen from the Dallas Desperados. Had six receptions for 105 yards and one touchdown as well as 11 returns for 245 yards and a score last season with the Desperados.

Round 6: WR/LB Derek McCoy (6-3, 215, Colorado - McCoy was chosen from Orlando. He went to training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005 and 2006, played for the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europe in 2005 and has also spent time with the Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals and St. Louis Rams.

Round 7: OL/DL Tony Wragge (6-4, 320, New Mexico State) - Chosen from Los Angeles, Wragge had one reception for six yards and a touchdown in his rookie season with Los Angeles. Wragge is currently with the San Francisco 49ers.

Round 8: FB/LB John Kuhn (6-0, 255, Shippensburg) - Chosen from San Jose, Kuhn is currently on the practice squad of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Round 9: FB/LB Keala Keanaaina (6-3, 264, California) - Keanaaina was chosen from Utah. He played for the San Jose SaberCats from 2003-04 and was an All-Arena First Team selection in 2003 when he had 49 rushes for 250 yards and 10 touchdowns to go with 19 tackles and one sack on defense.

Round 10: DB Will Hunter (5-11, 193, Syracuse) - Hunter was chosen from Philadelphia. He is currently a member of the Minnesota Vikings, having appeared in three games this season after having appeared in 13 games as a backup defensive back and special teamer in 2005.

Round 11: The team traded the choice to the Tampa Bay Storm in exchange for DB Lance Frazier. Frazier (5-10, 183, West Virginia) played for the Dallas Cowboys in 2004 and went to training camp with the Seattle Seahawks in 2006. Frazier was allocated to NFL Europe by the Seahawks this past spring, where he played for the Cologne Centurions.

Round 12: WR/DB Rashied Davis (5-10, 180, San Jose State) - Chosen from San Jose, Davis played for the SaberCats from 2003-05. In 2005, he had 100 receptions for 1,420 yards and 30 touchdowns and 45 kick returns for 1,133 yards and six touchdowns, adding 13 tackles and four pass deflections. He is currently with the Chicago Bears after breaking into the NFL in 2005.

Round 13: OL/DL Cullen Jenkins (6-3, 292, Central Michigan) - Chosen from the Utah Blaze. Jenkins has been a member of the Green Bay Packers for the past three seasons.

Round 14: WR/LB Kelvin Kight (6-0, 219, Florida) - Chosen from Nashville, Kight is currently on the practice squad of the New England Patriots.
