Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays downed the Swing of the Quad Cities on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-2. The Rays have won the first two of a four game set against the Swing.
The Devil Rays haven't allowed Quad Cities to win at C.O. Brown the last seven meetings in Battle Creek. The last time Quad Cities won at C.O. Brown was May 12, 2004, when the Quad City River Bandits defeated the B.C. Yankees in the middle game of a three game series.
Jake McGee (6-5) took the mound for the Rays and was in All-Star form as he pitched five innings and only gave up one earned run. Jake fanned three, walked two, and surrendered six hits. McGee extends his Midwest League leading strikeout total to 90.
Chris Kelly entered in the sixth inning in relief of McGee. Kelly tossed 1.1 innings and limited the Quad City squad to one hit. Aaron Walker threw 1.2 innings and gave up a lead off homerun to Colby Rasmus in the top of the eighth inning but didn't allow another hit after that. Greg Dupas closed out the game, giving him his 17th consecutive save.
New arrival, Colt Simmons, was stellar at the plate in his first appearance in Southwest Michigan. Simmons was the designated hitter in Sunday's game and went 2-3 with an RBI and a walk. He drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring J.T. Hall from first base with a single up the middle.
Cesar Suarez went 2-4 with an RBI and David Cardona went 2-3 and scored a run. In the last two games the Devil Rays have won with 19 hits, all singles.
The Devil Rays and the Swing square off again Monday at 7:05 pm. It's Munchie Monday at C.O. Brown Stadium. Every Monday, select concession items are offered at a tremendous discount. This weeks Munchie Monday item is $1 hamburgers and $1.50 cheeseburgers. Come early and eat often because Munchie Monday ends at the completion of the fifth inning.
