Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING- The Lugnuts are beginning to taste the playoffs. Lansing moved one win closer to securing a Midwest league playoff berth with a 7-4 triumph over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon before 3,481 fans at Oldsmobile Park.

Lansing trailed 2-0 in the third inning before plating four runs off of Rattler starter Nick Allen. Yuber Rodriguez and Jesus Gonzalez led the inning off with a pair of singles. Sean Shoffit then reached on an error by the second baseman Luis Valbuena to load the bases for Lansing. Jacob Butler drew a walk to score Rodriguez to cut the lead to 2-1. Then Anthony Hatch and Joey Metropoulos each hit consecutive sacrifice flies to push the Lugnuts ahead 3-2. Brian Pettway capped off the inning with an RBI single to bring home Butler to make the score 4-2.

The Lugnuts added three more in the next inning, with two of them coming on an Anthony Hatch double that made the game 7-3. The double scored Gonzalez easily, and Butler barreled over Wisconsin catcher Chao Kuan Wu to dislodge the baseball on the throw home.

Lansing's pitching staff was effective on Sunday as Kristian Bell notched his fifth win of the year, allowing three runs, two of them in the first inning, on four hits.

Joey McLaughlin threw two innings, surrendering one run and Yesson Berroa picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Lansing (38-24) and Wisconsin (25-38) will play the third game of the series on Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Oldsmobile Park.
