New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) Trailing by one run heading into the ninth inning the Boulders surrendered 10 runs to the surging Jackals and dropped the first of the three game set 14-3.
The game remained scoreless heading into the top of the third when the Jackals found the scoreboard first. Angel Berroa belted a home run off of Boulders starter Bobby Blevins to make the score 1-0.
Rockland broke through in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Keith Brachold that tied the game at one. The Boulders would take the lead later in the inning on a Ryan Mollica home run that brought in Brachold and made the tally 3-1 in favor of Rockland.
The Jackals would cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the seventh when Chris Henderson scored on a Bryan Sabatella single. That would be the end of the day for Bobby Blevins who pitched a masterful six and two third innings, giving up just two runs on eight hits while striking out three.
After Garrett Johnson retired the last out for Rockland in the seventh, Julio Santana entered the game in the eighth and surrendered two runs that allowed New Jersey to take the 4-3 lead. The wheels would come off in the ninth though, as newly signed pitcher Eric Federico gave up nine Jackal runs to make the game out of reach.
The Boulders and Jackals face off again tomorrow in the second game of the three game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. and it is dollar beer night at the ballpark.
