New Jersey Jackals News Release

Little Falls, NJ- The New Jersey Jackals were off on Monday, August 16, 2004, after defeating the Quebec Les Capitales in three of four games this past weekend.

Coming into Monday's action, the Jackals have won 12 of their last 14 games, en route to a 17-9 record in the second half of the 2004 season. New Jersey also holds an overall record of 43-30 this season. Having already clinched the first half, South Division Championship, the Jackals are well on their way to clinching the division once again.

A steady combination of hitting, pitching and defense on a nightly basis has launched Manager Joe Calfapietra's squad into contention, once again, for another Northeast League Championship. New Jersey is looking for their fifth League Championship since their inaugural season in 1998.

Next on the schedule for the Jackals is the North Shore Spirit. The Spirit come to Yogi Berra Stadium on Tuesday, August 17, 2004, as they and the Jackals begin a three game series in Little Falls, New Jersey. In the second half, the Jackals have showed tremendous success against a formidable North Shore ballclub. In late July, New Jersey took three of four games from the Spirit in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Playoff tickets are currently on sale for the 2004 season. The Jackals have already clinched a spot, after winning the first half South Division Championship. Their opponent is yet to be determined. The ballclub will be playing at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday, September 8, and Thursday September 9, 2004. Both game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If necessary, a deciding game five will be played on Sunday, September 12, 2004, with a 5:05 p.m. start. Box seats are $11.00 and reserved seats are $9.00. Lawn seats are priced at $6.00, but will only be sold if both box and reserved seats are sold out. No discounts or coupons will be accepted during the playoffs.

New Jersey Jackals' shortstop Chris Rowan eclipsed the team record for homeruns as a member of the ballclub, on Friday, August 7, 2004. Rowan hit his 29th as a member of the Jackals, and 17th of the 2004 season, eclipsing Travis Bailey's record of 28. On Thursday August 12, 2004, Rowan also broke the league record for grand slams in a season. In an 8-5 win over Quebec, Rowan belted his third grand slam of 2004 in the bottom of the eighth inning.

On Tuesday, August 3, 2004, Jackals' starting pitcher Aaron Myers was named the Rawlings Northeast League Player of the Month. Myers went 4-1 in the month of July, with a 1.06 ERA. In 34 innings of work, Myers scattered 29 hits while striking out 38. Also during the month, Myers tossed a complete game, seven inning shutout of the Elmira Pioneers, in which he struck out eleven batters. At the time of the award, Myers was second in the Northeast League in strikeouts with 75.

The game scheduled between the New Jersey Jackals and the Elmira Pioneers on Wednesday, August 4, 2004, was suspended due to rain, entering the bottom of the third inning. New Jersey held a 3-0 lead over Elmira, partially due to a two-run homerun by Jay LaFlair. Because of the rain, the Elmira grounds crew worked till after the scheduled start time to get the field playable. The game did not get underway till after 9:00 p.m. The game will be continued on Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at 5:00 p.m., at Yogi Berra Stadium. The first game will begin in the bottom of the third, and will go a full nine innings. The second contest will be seven innings
