Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA– The Rox toppled the New Haven County Cutters, 10-6, Monday night at Campanelli Stadium in front of 2,554 on the strength of Brian Buchanan's pitching.

Buchanan improved his record to 11-3, a league-best in wins and a new Rox record for wins in a season, passing Joey Baker's 10 victories last season.

The Rox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Saul Bustos hit his eighth home run of the season, a solo shot to right field, and Mike Sandoval scored on Chad Stewart's sacrifice fly.

The Rox added six runs – on four hits, three walks and a hit batter, Mike Sandoval – in the fifth as they sent 11 men to the plate.

Kris Zacuto put up another run for the Rox in the eighth as he powered a tremendous blast, clearing the scoreboard in left-center field for his 11th home run of the season.

Jake Daubert, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, is now just two shy of 400 career hits. Bustos, who went 2-for-5, with two runs and two RBI, recorded his 800th career hit Aug. 9.

The Cutters made things interesting for the Rox when they scored five runs with two outs in the ninth before Matt Bennett, who entered the game in the eighth, got Jose Mateo looking to end the game.

The Rox were able to pick up a half game in the wild card standings and are now three games behind the Bangor Lumberjacks, who were off Monday.

The Rox (13-15, 40-34) and Cutters (5-22, 30-44) meet again Tuesday at 7:11 p.m. Jon Koch takes the mound for the Rox and will be opposed by the Cutters' Tony Harden.

Tuesday's special promotion is "Look! My hot dog is green!" Randomly selected hot dogs will have coupons with values ranging from $2 - $100. Tickets for the game are available and can be purchased at the Rox box office, by calling (508) 559-7070, or on-line by visiting www.brocktonrox.com.
