New Jersey Jackals News Release
Joel Bennett threw his first complete game of the season and Mike Glendenning hit a solo home run to propel the Jackals to a 3-2 victory over Berkshire at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.
Bennett (2-0), making his third start of the year, allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six. The New Jersey right-hander also staved off a Black Bears rally in the top of the seventh.
Up 3-0, Berkshire got to within one run on a Manny Crespo RBI groundout followed by a Brady Williams RBI single. But with one out and runners on first and second, Bennett forced Chris Briones to fly out for the second out, then struck out Jose Mateo to end the game.
It was Glendenning's homer that proved to be the difference. With New Jersey holding a 2-0 lead, Glendenning led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo blast to left center, his ninth of the year, off Berkshire starter Courtney Hall (2-5).
The Jackals jumped on top in the third inning, getting an RBI triple from Joe Kerrigan, followed by a Darren Blakely RBI double for a 2-0 advantage.
