Berkshire beats Jackals 3-2 in game two

Berkshire Black Bears News Release

Shane Hopper's fifth inning RBI single proved to be the difference as Berkshire defeated New Jersey 3-2 in game two of a doubleheader at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls.

Hopper's run scoring single gave the Black Bears a 3-1 lead at the time, just enough to tip a persistent Jackals team.

New Jersey posed a serious threat in the bottom of the sixth inning, loading the bases with nobody out off Berkshire reliever Shane Waroff. Matt Baile relieved Waroff and promptly walked the first batter he faced, Craig Conway, to make the score 3-2. But Baile recovered, striking out Alberto Vasquez and inducing John Anderson and Joe Kerrigan into pop fly outs.

Black Bears' starter Tony Harden (5-1) picked up his fifth victory of the year, allowing one run on three hits and five walks while striking out nine. Baile also pitched the seventh inning to earn his sixth save of the season.

Jackson Crowther lost for the first time this year, surrendering three runs, one earned, on eight hits. Crowther (5-1) struck out four and did not walk a batter, but did uncork three wild pitches in the game.

Kevin Forbes was 2-for-3 for Berkshire, scoring two runs and driving in the second of the Black Bears two third inning runs with a double. John Anderson singled, scored and stole three bases for the Jackals. Mike Glendenning had an RBI single in the first inning for New Jersey.
