THE WEEK AHEAD- The New Jersey Cardinals (St. Louis Cardinals) begin a four game home stand on Thursday, August 18, with the first of two against the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles). WSUS 102.3 will have a booth set up prior to the game and will be giving away various memorabilia and promotional items for all fans in attendance. The series finale against Aberdeen on Friday, August 19 will feature a fireworks extravaganza courtesy of the New Jersey Herald immediately following the conclusion of the game. The game on Saturday, August 20 marks the beginning of a two-game set with the Staten Island Yankees (New York Yankees) and ticket holders can bring one antique item to the stadium and have it appraised by Dr. Lori free of charge. There will also be a Boy Scout Sleepover after the last out. Sunday, August 21, is Support Our Troops Nightat Skylands Park, a promotion designed to honor Americas servicemen and women at home and abroad. The Army National Guard is planning to land a Blackhawk helicopter in centerfield prior to the first pitch.

WEEKLY WRAP-UP: The Cardinals struggled last week, dropping six of seven games. They lost the final two games of their six-game home stand to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to start the week, before dropping 2 of three to Hudson Valley to start a five-game road trip. The Cards finished the trip with two in Brooklyn, with the Cyclones (New York Mets) taking both. Currently, the Cardinals are 26-30, 11 games behind front running Staten Island in the McNamara division of the NY-Penn league.

BIRDS WITH BATS: Despite the struggles of the team, OF Sean Danielson continues to impress at the plate. Over his last five games, he hit .500 (11-22) with seven runs scored. His hot streak raised his average to a season-best .330 (32-97), which is tops on the team. OF Sean Dobson has responded to an increase in playing time with a .333 average, spanning his last 6 games. He has banged out 7 hits in 21 at-bats, raising his season average to .274 (32-117). As a team, New Jersey is hitting .263 (505-1918).

CARDS ON THE MOUND: RHP Jeremy Zick continues to dominate out of the bullpen. In 12.1 innings in the month of August, the right hander has posted 0.73 ERA with 12 strikeouts. For the season, he is 1-0 with a 1.65 ERA, and has yet to allow a run at home, a streak covering 16.1 innings. RHP Mitchell Boggs has begun to heat up after a slow start. Boggs dropped his first three decisions, before rebounding with a career-best 4-game win streak. In his last start at Hudson Valley, the university of Georgia standout went six innings, allowing one run with six strikeouts for the win.
