New Jersey Cardinals beat IronBirds in extra innings, 3-2

First baseman Jose Mendez drilled an RBI single to center with one out in the bottom of the tenth as the New Jersey Cardinals beat the IronBirds 3-2, in ten frames, Thursday night. The single scored Craig Newton, who doubled off Russ Brocato with one down.

It was a night where the IronBirds struck out 17 times and left ten runners on base. In the top of the 9th, with the score tied at 2, Aberdeen had second and third with no outs but could not score.

Brad Wiggins went 2-5 with an RBI, while Zack Davis added two hits and Jason Maxey was 1-4 with an RBI double.

IronBird starter David Hernandez allowed two runs, just one earned in five innings. Ryan Schwabe pitched four scoreless in relief in innings six thru nine.

New Jersey ended a four-game losing streak and Aberdeen's win streak of two in a row, ended.

NOTES ---- Aberdeen has played seven one-run games over the last ten contests and been in extra innings now in 3 of the last 4 games..............Aberdeen falls to 4-2 on the year in extra inning contests...........RHP Julio Soriano has joined the team up from Bluefield and will start Saturday at Brooklyn.......with Bluefield he was 2-3 with a 4.46 ERA..............the IronBirds wrap up this two-game set at New Jersey, Friday at 7:15pm with righty Reid Hamblet (2-2 4.19) set to make his first start of the season in the rotation spot vacated by Radhames Liz.
