BURLINGTON, VT --- The Oneonta Tigers scored seven runs, all unearned, over the final three innings to erase a 2-1 deficit and defeated the Vermont Expos 8-2 in New York-Penn League action Thursday night at Centennial Field.

Oneonta used a passed ball by Expos catcher Luis Apodaca and strikeout wild pitch to score a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game. The Tigers then took a 3-2 lead in the eighth as a Jose Contreras fielding error on a possible double play ball led to the go ahead run scoring on a Mike Holliman double play.

The Tigers put the game away in the ninth with five more unearned insurance runs. With Jeramy Laster on third with one out, Expos reliever Jeff Taylor got William Rhymes to ground to short and Laster was caught in a rundown between third and home. But Laster was able to score as Taylor dropped a throw from third baseman Leonard Davis.

Two batters later, Justin Justice gave the Tigers a 5-2 lead with an RBI single. After a walk loaded the bases, Holliman grounded a three-run triple down the rightfield line for the 8-2 lead.

Vermont had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff walk to Jose Contreras and one-out RBI double to leftcenter by Davis. Oneonta tied the game in the fourth on a solo homer from Jeffrey Larish, playing in his first game with the Tigers. The Expos retook the lead 2-1 in the fourth on a two-out walk to Mike Daniel and back-to-back singles from Louisa and Andy Lane.

Tiger reliever Jake Baxter (2-2) allowed just two hits with no walks and six strikeouts over five scoreless innings for the victory. Vermont starter Marco Estrada allowed just one run on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts in five innings in a no decision, while Clint Everts (0-1) gave up two unearned runs in two innings for the loss.

Larish was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Matt Joyce was 2-for-5 with two runs for Oneonta (33-22), which improved its road record this season to 21-9 with the win. Louisa had two of the five hits on the night for Vermont (19-38), which is now 0-7 this season against Oneonta.

The two teams will play game two of the four-game series at Centennial Field on Friday night beginning at 7:05 p.m. with Carlos Martinez getting the start for the Expos.
