Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

Brooklyn, NY The Cyclones (30-26) had a thrilling come from behind victory over Williamsport on Thursday night, beating the Crosscutters by the score of 4-3 in 11 innings. The win increased the Cyclones current winning streak to three games, and was also the Cyclones first victory over the ‘Cutters in seven games this season. Mike Sharpe, who came into the game hitting .065 with two hits in 31 at-bats, finished the night 2-for-3, with the game winning RBI single in the bottom of the eleventh, while Greg Gonzalez finished the night 5-for-6 with two runs scored to pace the Cyclones offense.

The Crosscutters jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage, scoring single runs in three of the first four innings, but in the bottom of the fifth the Cyclones started to chip away at Williamsport's lead. Greg Gonzalez started the rally with a single, and later stole second before coming around to score on an Ivan Naccarata double to cut the deficit to 3-1. Brooklyn inched closer in the sixth, when Joe Holden's RBI groundout scored Sharpe and trimmed the score to 3-2. The teams matched zeros until the bottom of the ninth when the Cyclones finally drew even. Gonzalez was once again the table setter, starting the inning with a single and advancing to second on a throwing error. After Matt Anderson's sacrifice bunt attempt turned into a single, the Cyclones had runners on the corners with nobody out for Caleb Stewart. Big Stew came through with a booming double off of the left field wall that plated Gonzalez and knotted the score at 3-3. Brooklyn would later load the bases, but failed to get the winning run across the plate, and sent the game into extra frames.

After a scoreless tenth the Cyclones went ahead for good in the eleventh. Naccarata started the inning with a single and a stolen base to set the stage for Sharpe's heroics. Mike Sharpe plated Naccarata with a perfectly placed single down the left field line for his first RBI of the season and gave Brooklyn the 4-3 victory.

The Cyclones bullpen was outstanding on Thursday, as Travis Hope and Sal Aguilar pitched 7.1 innings of scoreless relief. Hope (4-1) got the win for Brooklyn after pitching three perfect innings.

The Cyclones will take on the Crosscutters in the middle game of the three game set on Friday evening at 7:00pm. Tomorrow night will be the last "Friday Night Fireworks" of the season. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling(718)507-TIXX, logging on to www.brooklyncyclones.com or in person at the KeySpan Park Box Office, beginning at 10:00 am.
