(Windsor, ON) - Anthony Stefano broke a 1-1 tie in the third period, leading the Spitfires to a 4-1 win over the Sudbury Wolves Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.

Stefano (2G, 1A) and Lucas Venuto (1G, 2A), both acquired prior to last week's trade deadline, continued to shine, as the Spits won for the fifth time in six games to pull within a point of the Saginaw Spirit for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

David Zeppieri opened the scoring with the lone goal for Sudbury (7-31-1-1) seven minutes into the opening period.

Stefano countered with his sixth of the year and second since arriving in Windsor (18-22-1-0), tying the game at 1-1 just 1:21 later.

The game stayed tied through the second period and well into the third, before Stefano batted the winner past Troy Timpano (34 saves) at 11:01.

Venuto salted the game away on a pretty solo rush at 15:42, before Trevor Murphy extended his point streak to eight games with his team-leading 16th goal of the year, into an empty net, at 18:46.

Brendan Johnston earned the win with 22 saves.

The Spits play their second of three games in three nights Friday in London.
