New England Revolution Clinch Top Seed in Eastern Conference

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have clinched the top seed in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference, securing the club a first-round bye and homefield advantage through the Conference Final round in the 2021 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.

New England secured the top seed following Nashville SC's 0-0 draw on Sunday against New York City FC. Entering Sunday's busy slate of MLS action, the Revolution owned a 19-point lead in the Eastern Conference and a 14-point advantage in the race of the Supporters' Shield. Should the Revolution win the Supporters' Shield, New England would also host the MLS Cup final at Gillette Stadium should they advance to the championship match.

The Revolution will open the 2021 playoff campaign at Gillette Stadium between Nov. 25 and Nov. 30 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup in the opening round. The Revolution are five games away from completing one of the most successful seasons in MLS' 26-year history, having already set new club marks for wins, points, goals scored, and road victories. New England's 2.24 points per game through 29 matches are on pace to shatter the previous MLS record (2.13). With 65 points on the year, the Revs need only seven points in the final five games to match the single-season mark (72). In addition, two more wins over the final five matches would see the Revolution tie the MLS record for victories (22) in the post-shootout era (since 2000). The club's winning percentage of .776 is also currently on pace to be the best in league annals.

New England, 13-1-2 over the last 16 games, has been equally dominant at home and on the road in 2021. The club's 11-1-2 record at Gillette Stadium is one win shy of matching the team's best mark of 12. If New England can win all three of its remaining home games, the team would tie the MLS record for home wins (14) and set a new league mark for home points in a season (43). On the road, the Revs are 9-3-3 with 30 away points - tied for the fifth most in the MLS record books. New England has won a remarkable eight of the last nine away games. With one more road win, the Revs would own the most road points of any team in the post-shootout era (since 2000) and become the sixth team all-time to win 10 games away from home.
