New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - Under the direction of Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena and Technical Director Curt Onalfo, the New England Revolution have bolstered the club's technical staff across the First Team, Revolution II, and Revolution Academy. Revolution II added two assistant coaches, while the sports medicine and sports performance departments have expanded to include nine full-time positions.
Revolution Technical Director Curt Onalfo and Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay appointed former Revs Academy coach Marcelo Santos as Assistant Coach for the third-division professional side, while Yuta Nomura joins Revs II as Goalkeeper Coach pending receipt of his P-1 visa. Santos, who holds a USSF "A" coaching license, joined the academy as Head Coach of the Under-17 side before the 2017-18 season, and coached the U-19s for the last two seasons. With the Academy, Santos coached Revolution II signees Nick Woodruff and Meny Silva. Nomura joins the staff from the University of Central Arkansas, where he helped the Sugar Bears win the 2018 Missouri Valley Conference championship and the 2019 Sun Belt Conference regular season title. A native of Tokyo, Japan, Nomura graduated from Lindsey Wilson College and was a part of the Central Arkansas staff that was named 2018 MVC Staff of the Year.
With Santos joining Revolution II, the Academy coaching staff has been restructured. Bryan Scales is in his 10th season as the club's Director of Youth Development, and will coach the Under-15s. Patrick Ouckama, also the Academy's Director of Coaching, will continue to lead the Under-17 side. T.J. Love is Head Coach of the Under-14s, while John Frederick remains on the staff as an assistant coach. In addition, Emily Hess joins the club as Academy Residency Coordinator.
Director of Sports Performance Jarryd Phillips returns for his second season with New England following his appointment in June 2019. James Collins was added to Phillips' staff as Head of Sports Science after spending the last three seasons as fitness coach with Sporting Kansas City's academy and USL Championship side Swope Park Rangers. Collins previously worked with the men's soccer program at Springfield College (2014-16), and at Northeastern University in Boston. Daniel Kirwan also joins the club as Sports Performance Coach for Revolution II following five years with D.C. United, including the last two as the MLS team's strength and power coach, and four years with Clemson University football.
Evan Allen enters his 10th season with the Revolution - his eighth as the club's Head Athletic Trainer and first as Director of Sports Medicine. Matt Kirkpatrick returns to his role with the First Team as Assistant Athletic Trainer, while Harrison Hall has been named the Head Athletic Trainer for Revolution II after working primarily with the Revs Academy in 2019. Eric Bengston joins the staff as Rehabilitation Coordinator and Assistant Athletic Trainer following stints at Ohio State University and Appalachian State University, while former Smith College graduate assistant Darrell St. Jean becomes the Academy Athletic Training Associate.
