New England Revolution News Release
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution have acquired midfielder Sebastian Lletget from the LA Galaxy in exchange for $500,000 in 2022 and 2023 General Allocation Money. The Galaxy may receive additional future GAM if certain performance-based conditions are met. The United States international joins the Revolution after seven MLS seasons with the LA Galaxy.
"In Sebastian Lletget, we have acquired a midfielder who has experienced success at both the MLS and international levels," Revolution Sporting Director and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. "He is a talented player who is a dependable box-to-box player, can score goals, and is an excellent team player. Sebastian is a great addition to our team".
Lletget, 29, arrives in New England following a seven-year stint with the LA Galaxy in which he made 158 MLS appearances, registering 23 goals and 27 assists, from 2015 to 2021. The 2021 MLS All-Star midfielder logged three goals and five assists in 26 appearances for the Galaxy this past season. His postseason career totals include six starts and two goals.
"I am extremely excited for this next chapter. I'm thrilled to be heading to such a top team and to be reunited with Bruce Arena, who has proven time and again that he is an elite coach," Lletget said. "I look forward to playing alongside so many top players and I can't wait to contribute and help bring silverware to this club."
On the international stage, the San Francisco, Calif. native has been capped 33 times by the United States Men's National Team since his debut for the Stars and Stripes under Bruce Arena in January 2017. Lletget has scored eight international goals at the senior level. In 2021, he totaled four goals in 16 caps and helped capture the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title alongside new Revolution teammates Matt Turner and Henry Kessler.
Lletget began his career with West Ham United in 2010 after developing in the London-based club's Academy. He made his professional debut for West Ham an FA Cup match in January 2014 and featured in 54 contests for West Ham's Under-23 side.
The Revolution will kick off the 2022 MLS regular season away from home on Saturday, Feb. 26 against the Portland Timbers. Prior to the MLS season, New England will open play in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League against Haitian side Cavaly AS in the Round of 16. The first away leg will be played between Feb. 15-17, while the return leg at Gillette Stadium will take place between Feb. 22-24.
