Nettles' Five RBI Lead Patriots to 7-3 Win

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the York Revolution 7-3 before 6,099 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo home run by third baseman Jeff Nettles (11). The home run was his fourth consecutive time at bat with a homer, following a three home run performance against Southern Maryland on Sunday afternoon.

The Revolution took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Designated hitter Jose Herrera singled, left fielder James Shanks drew a walk, and Herrera scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher John Pachot and Shanks scored on a throwing error on the play.

The Patriots regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Center fielder Wayne Lydon and first baseman Joe Burke each had triples and Nettles followed with an RBI single for a 3-2 lead.

York tied up the game with a home run by right fielder Erold Andrus (8) in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 3-3.

Somerset responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to reclaim the lead. Shortstop Iggy Suarez, Lydon, and Burke all drew walks to load the bases and Nettles brought all three home with a double. Right fielder Noah Hall plated Nettles with an RBI single for a 7-3 lead.

Patriots reliever Casey Cahill (5-4) got the win after allowing a hit in 1.1 innings pitched. York reliever Dustin Pease (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in 1.1 innings pitched.

The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a 6:35 pm game against the Revolution on Tuesday night. The game includes Youth Soccer Night and Knights of Columbus Night.
