Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Team captain Josh Nenadal has announced his commitment to Lake Superior State University, beginning this fall. Having just completed his final year of junior hockey, Nenadal becomes the 20th member from the 2014-2015 team to make a college commitment.
"It's obviously a great feeling to know that you have achieved a dream that you have had since you were a young boy," said Nenadal. "Youngstown sculpted me into the person that I am today, and I can't thank the organization, the staff, and my teammates enough for making all of this possible."
Coming off of his third season in Youngstown, the Brecksville, OH, native set career highs in goals (8), assists (12), and points (20) this past season. He posted a career-high five-game point streak from March 7-March 21, totaling three goals and two assists in that span. He was also an instrumental piece in the Phantoms' Tier-1 era record (2002-Present) 17-game winning streak, netting the game-winner in a 2-1 win over the Waterloo Black Hawks with under a minute left in the third period, giving the Phantoms win number 15.
Nenadal continued to see success in the playoffs, ranking second on the Phantoms in playoff scoring with a pair of goals and an assist. His two goals came in a 4-2 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks in game two of the first round, marking his first-career two-goal game, regular season or playoffs. In 150 career games played for the Phantoms, the recently-turned 21-year-old accounted for 16 goals and 26 assists.
"Josh was the heart and soul of the Youngstown Phantoms' organization for the last three seasons and we couldn't be prouder as an organization for him and his family," said Phantoms Head Coach Anthony Noreen. "Josh does everything the right way on and off the ice, and is as good of a leader as I've ever been around. We'll be forever thankful to Josh for the things he did in Youngstown, and are excited to see him continue to make everyone around him better wherever he goes in the future."
Prior to his time in Youngstown, Nenadal skated parts of two seasons for the Black Hawks; from 2011-2012, accounting for a goal and four assists in 38 regular season games. He appeared in 15 playoff games for the Black Hawks in 2012, potting a goal and dishing out three assists. Overall, he totaled 17 goals and 30 assists for 47 total points, in 188 career USHL games played.
